  • CDL Medical Exam Doc Who Falsified Records Skates With Community Service, $100 Fine
An FMCSA-Certified Medical Examiner has pled guilty to falsifying medical records and attempting to cover up his fraud. As part of his plea deal, he will serve probation, community service and pay a $100 fine, but will not serve even a single day in jail. According to the DOT Office of the Inspector General, Ronald E. Sherry was the subject of an investigation after an FMCSA review found that he was conducting CDL medical exams at ten times the average rate. A joint Department of Homeland Security, DOT-OIG, and FMCSA investigation was launched. Sherry was a physician’s assistant, licensed to practice medicine. According to court documents, Sherry would submit FMCSA medical exam forms certifying that a driver was physically fit to drive even when they were not. In some cases, he filed the forms without actually conducting an exam at all. A press release from the DOT OIG announced… ..... Read More.

  • Happy 4th! But Watch Out For Cargo Thieves!
A happy Independence Day to our community members and to all truckers nationwide! Whether you’re at home or out on the road though, holiday weekends like this one bring a significantly increased risk of cargo theft! Both CargoNet and SensiGuard are warning truckers and carriers that they should be prepared for cargo thieves to be more active than usual this weekend. July 4th falling on a Saturday this year means that many shippers and receivers will be closed on Friday, Monday, or both. According to SensiGuard, the number of cargo thefts per day increases by 39% during Independence Day holidays while the value of lost goods is 43% higher than the rest of the year. Hot spots include areas in and around Los Angeles,… ..... Read More.

  • FMCSA Has Started Investigating Freight Brokers For Alleged Violations, But Says There Are...
Rate cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic have brought the often-turbulent relationship between freight brokers and truckers into the public eye recently. The federal government has said that it is looking in to allegations of misconduct by freight brokers, but says that there haven’t been many. Some truck drivers accuse freight brokers of taking fairly-priced loads and posting them on load boards for starvation rates. In a highly unusual move, the president and CEO of the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) responded to criticism by posting a video on YouTube. In it, he called critics “snake oil salesmen” and said that truckers – not brokers – are responsible for low-paying freight. He then resigned a few weeks later saying that he had accomplished everything he had been hired to accomplish. Acting Administrator for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Jim Mullen, spoke briefly about the agency’s plans regarding investigations in… ..... Read More.

  • $500 Billion House Infrastructure Bill That Includes HOS Reform Delay Approved, Moves On T...
The nearly $500 billion, multi-year highway funding bill has passed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. It has moved on to the House where it already has over 50 amendments. One of which hopes to delay the implementation of the Hours of Service reform rule. The spending bill is being called the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act. Over the course of five years, the bill allots $494 billion for investments in highways, bridges, truck parking, and other surface transportation infrastructure. “For far too long, Congress has taken a pass on trying to solve the toughest problems plaguing our surface transportation system, allowing it to limp along and fall farther and farther behind the rest of the world,” Congressman Peter DeFazio said according to Fleetowner. “That all changes with the INVEST in America Act, transformational legislation that… .....
